The Parliament of Uganda made history by passing a significant resolution urging the Government of Uganda to support the Karamoja Peace and Technology University (KAPATU) Project. The motion for free compulsory boarding school education for the Karamoja Sub-Region was presented by Hon. Achia Remigio, the MP of Pian County, Nabilatuk District, during a parliamentary regional sitting in Gulu City on 30th August 2024. Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, chaired the sitting. The motion was amended by Hon. Lokii Peter Abrahams, MP Jie County, Kotido District, to include the Government of Uganda's support for KAPATU. Hon. Ochero Jimbricky Norman, the MP Labwor County, Hon. Nakut Faith Loru, Napak District Woman Representative, Hon. Lokii John Baptist, MP Matheniko County, and Hon. Dr. Lokeris Teko Peter, the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, and MP for Chekwii County in Nakapiripirit District seconded this amendment. The motion received overwhelming support from all members present during the sitting.
