Isuofia, Anambra State, August 24, 2024 — The Isuofia community in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, came alive on August 24, 2024, as it celebrated its annual New Yam Festival with vibrant cultural displays and the recognition of significant contributions to the town's progress. The event, held at the Civic Centre, brought together the six villages that make up Isuofia—Umueze, Ozalla, Isiaku, Okpoko, Ezioka, and Akulu—each seated under their respective canopies as the festivities unfolded in a grand display of unity and tradition. This year’s celebration was particularly notable as it was the first major public event organized under the leadership of the newly elected President General of Isuofia Peoples Assembly, Engr. Fidelis Okafor, and his executive team. Engr. Okafor took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of his administration within the past seven months, emphasizing the significant milestone of actualizing the town's long-anticipated constitution. This newly adopted constitution, which has now become the working document for the community, was formally presented to the public during the New Yam Festival. Engr. Okafor underscored the importance of this document in guiding the future governance and development of Isuofia. In his speech, Engr. Okafor also outlined other accomplishments, including enhancing internal security within the community. Looking forward, he detailed ambitious projects his administration plans to embark on, such as the development of an Ultra Modern Building material, and called on the community's good-spirited individuals for support. A significant highlight of the festival was the conferment of the chieftaincy title 'Mmili Gulu Egu' on Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo. The title, which translates to 'Cool Water,' reflects Dr. Nonye Soludo’s humanitarian efforts and dedication to the community and the state at large. The title holds deep personal significance, as it was previously held by her late mother, Mrs. Gloria Uzoamaka Ezenwanne. The chieftaincy honor was bestowed by HRH Igwe Col. CAO Muoghalu, the traditional ruler of Isuofia. Speaking on behalf of his family, Governor Chukwuma Soludo expressed profound gratitude to the people of Isuofia for honoring his wife with the chieftaincy title. He also acknowledged the unwavering support his family has received from the community, particularly during his daughter’s recent traditional marriage rites on August 10, 2024. Governor Soludo's remarks were filled with appreciation for the communal spirit and solidarity that define Isuofia. The New Yam Festival was further enlivened by cultural performances, including musical displays from various villages, traditional dances such as the Ekelengba dance group from Akulu, and an array of masquerades that added to the festival’s cultural richness. The atmosphere was made even more vibrant by the generous donations of tricycles and other multipurpose vehicles by Mr. Patrick, aimed at empowering community members. The 2024 New Yam Festival not only celebrated the harvest but also served as a platform for reinforcing the bonds within the Isuofia community.
