Daniele Serra con Orch. – Tango delle Capinere (Tango of the Warblers) (Bixio – Cherubini) Disco Gramofono, 1928 (Italy) NOTE: This tango, which has a somewhat strange title (the warblers are little birds looking like the black-capped chickadee, and gifted with the trilli considered as one of the most beautiful birds’voices in Europe) – belongs to the noble family of internationally renowned great Italian tangos of the 1920/30s. (Just a Gigolo, Chitarra Romana, Violino Tzigano, Scrivimi, Torna piccina mia, Creola). In Poland, it was sung by Adam Aston under the title “Gorące usta twe” (Your Hot Lips) • Adam Aston sings "Tango delle Capiner... – a possible reason for such change being fact, that the Polish name for a “warbler”- “gajówka” – sounds rather jocular and can serve any other purpose, but the title of the romantic canzona. During the interwar period – despite the fascist regime – Italy was abundant in fabulous creators of pop-music - so the composers (Bixio, Mascheroni, di Lazzaro, Casucci, Olivieri and many others) as the performing artists (Daniele Serra, Crivel, Fernando Orlandis, Carlo Buti, Ada Neri, Aldo Visconti, Natalino Otto, Antonio Rabagliati, Norma Bruni, to name only a few). That boom in Italian pop music lasted, however, much longer and thru the postwar decades, towards its climax in the 1960s, in form of the world famous Song Festival in San Remo (with appearances of such Italian mega-stars, as Domenico Modugno, Gigliola Cinquetti, Milva, Adriano Celentano or Gianni Morandi). Unfortunately, after 1945 Daniele Serra, who belonged to the most beautiful Italian voices in the interwar years, disappeared from the public performances, as well as some of his colleagues (Crivel, Fernando Orlandis, Aldo Visconti, Norma Bruni). The reason was their ardent dedication to the fascist ideology and active propagation of the fascist ideas. The punishment was highest: the oblivion. As slideshow for this recording serve the set of severat beautiful Italian posters from that period.
