Taken from her superb 2010 album on King Records and Swing Journal Gold Disc Winner 'North Bird' Erena Terakubo (alto sax) Kenny Barron (piano) Christian McBride (bass) Lee Pearson (drums) Peter Bernstein (guitar) Born and raised in Hokkaido, the northern most island and prefecture in Japan, Terakubo first caught people's attention when she was just 10 years old, playing an instrument almost half her size and producing big sound. She played for five years in the Sapporo Junior Jazz Orchestra, and has already spent several summers at Berklee College of Music, getting lessons from Terri Lyne Carrington. She has taken lessons from or performed with Herbie Hancock, Tiger Okoshi, Terumasa Hino, Yosuke Yamashita and Sadao Watanabe. For her eagerly awaited debut recording, the team led by producer Yasohachi Itoh pulled out all the stops. They took her to New York's Avatar Studio, gathered Kenny Barron (p), Christian McBride (b), Lee Pearson (ds) and Peter Bernstein (g). They even took the best Sony engineers to the studio to record the sessions in pure DSD! The result is a stunning, powerful debut album that is full of exciting moments. Not only Terakubo more than holds her own among the seasoned pros, she even managed to excite and inspire these first-call musicians to play their asses off!
