In this video I’m going to show the demolition of the old bridge and I’ve footage of the new bridge over the M62 near Rochdale. The bridge provides a vital transport link between greater Manchester and Yorkshire. It also Carries 6% of the total freight traffic that supplies the national grid. The bridge was constructed in 1962 and featured a strand of metal inside the concrete which have encountered problems due to water ingress causing internal corrosion. To ensure both the railway and motorway continue to operate safely, network rail are replacing the bridge in a 20 million pound project. The new bridge has been constructed alongside the motorway and is being jacked into place
