Freestyle breathing: split view head position

A common mistake in freestyle breathing is to lift your head out of the water when breathing in. This disturbs your horizontal body line, which causes drag and makes swimming freestyle much harder. Always turn your head to the side to breath in, keeping one glass of your goggles in the water, one glass out. We call this a 'split view' breathing technique. The bow wave that forms around your head creates an air pocket around your mouth. Using this air pocket, you can breath in without lifting your head. Try it!
