সবুজে সাজাই বাংলাদেশ | Greening Bangladesh

Title: সবুজে সাজাই বাংলাদেশ | Greening Bangladesh Our Bangladesh is covered with lush greenery. Plants grow naturally and easily here. Just as there are various plants around the houses in rural Bengal, there are also different types of forests. These plants and forests are safe habitats for wildlife. Plants not only provide safe habitats for wildlife but are also vital for the survival of humans and other creatures, both directly and indirectly. Trees provide a significant portion of the essential oxygen we need to live. They are the sources of various necessary materials including food, clothing, and medicine. They also play a role in combating natural disasters such as floods, tidal waves, cyclones, and droughts. Large trees help to prevent lightning. That's why trees are a valuable gift of nature. Although trees have covered Bangladesh in a green blanket for centuries, they have been severely damaged in the last few decades. Natural forests, rural bushes, and trees have decreased due to building houses, agriculture, setting up factories, pollution, and climate change. The Sal Forest, once known as Bangladesh's largest forest, has now turned into fragmented forests. Dense hill forests have turned into barren hills. The ecosystem of the Sundarbans is also being destroyed. Plant species in cities are being destroyed due to population and unplanned development. Foreign plants are being planted in parks and along roadsides. These plants are spreading everywhere in Bangladesh. In some places, they are becoming invasive. As a result, the diversity of native plants is decreasing. Various wildlife species throughout the country are becoming endangered due to the food and habitat crises. As a result, the overall environment of Bangladesh is gradually declining. Various activities are being implemented to make Bangladesh green. Coastal green belts have been established by creating afforestation on new accumulated sand chars in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. Forest restoration is going on by planting trees in degraded natural forests. Tree cover is increased in outside of the natural forest every year through individual and social initiatives. The monsoon is the best time for tree plantation in Bangladesh. During this time, various volunteer organizations plant trees in schools, colleges, mosques, and madrasas. This tree-plantation program is carried out nationwide with the active participation of students, parents, and prominent individuals. Trees are also planted on fallow land for greening Bangladesh. Usually, fruit, woody, and medicinal plants are prioritized for tree plantation. Plant species are selected based on the location. Some species are planted along roadsides, while others are planted in educational institutions. Mangrove species are planted in coastal areas influenced by tides. Planting techniques vary by species, and so does their care. Besides tree plantation, saplings are being distributed to students for greening Bangladesh. The students are planting these saplings in their courtyards. Since ancient times, many villagers have been gardening in their courtyards on their own initiative. Even though they garden to meet their demands, rural forests have developed in villages throughout Bengal. Nowadays, rooftop gardens are being developed in houses in Dhaka and other cities. These gardens benefit the people directly and the whole country indirectly. Tree cover is increasing all over Bangladesh through the implementation of these activities. The Bengal is being adorned with greenery.
