On Monday 19 August 2024, the Sydney Metro City Extension opened, and I was on the first train from Sydenham which departed at 4:54am! This was the day that the Sydney Metro M1 line was extended from Chatswood to Sydenham, and in this video, I capture the excitement of being on that first northbound train! By changing at Crows Nest, I then catch the first southbound train back to Sydenham, followed by a chat with Howard Collins. I then head to Martin Place to talk to Jo Haylen, Peter Regan, Rodd Staples, Hugh Lawson and many other people! This video captures the excitement of this defining moment in Sydney's Public Transport History. This is up there with the opening of the City Circle in 1926 and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932! However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made. Also note that for older videos, things may change over time, causing some of the information to become out of date. Construction Sites, Maintenance Facilities and other Private Property All footage of construction sites, maintenance facilities and other private property is taken from a public vantage point. The only exception is if it's an open day or I have special permission to access the site. The iPhone's small lens and zoom function makes it easier to film through small gaps in hoardings or fencing, so it may look like I'm on site when I'm not! If you would like to know the exact filming location, then ask me in the comments. To get in touch: Email - [email protected] Twitter DM - twitter.com/transportvlog
