So Many Greedy Mana Bases...It's Time for More Land Destruction MTGA Explorer BO1

It's been a few weeks since my last video, and I wanted to get something out to there show where my focus has been lately. One of my goals is to get a 5-0 in a MTGO league with The Enigma Jewel and Field of Ruin/Demolition Field, so I'm still tinkering around in MTGA looking for ways to do it. I've severely compromised my MMR and Mythic ranking in the process, but I need reps against good decks and it is what it is. The reason I think I have a shot with 8-Field right now is because some of the most popular decks in Pioneer/Explorer are running so few basic lands. For example: * Amalia generally runs a single Plains * Phoenix generally runs 3 Islands * Rakdos Vamps generally runs 4 basics * Gruul Aggro runs 1-2 basic lands * Boros Convoke runs 1-2 basic lands * Niv to Light and Quintorius run a single of each basic land * Lotus Field runs 0-2 basic lands * Izzet Ensoul runs around 2 basic lands Basically, my theory is that if you can get out in front of these decks by blowing up their lands they shouldn't be able to recover. If you can get a jewel, field, and wildfire in your first 8 cards, you're most likely gonna breeze through against the above deck. Even better if you have a counter spell to back you up. I know you're thinking...."Mammoo, that's great for 2/3rds of the meta but what about the last 1/3?" That's a good question and my answer to you is that I'm going to use Narset/Geier right now as a general solution since they run out of cards quickly and hope I can address them better via sideboard by lowering my mana curve and removing fields. If I have room, I'll try to handle Azorius Control and Spirits with some sideboard tech. The main problem I'm running into, in addition to mono red burning me out eventually, is backbreaking 3-drops like Fable of the Mirror Breaker, Sorin followed by Ripper, Liliana, Go Blank, Urabrask's Forge, Kiora, or some random creature that has 4+ toughness. My gut is telling me to pack Spell Pierce but I don't know what to cut from the top end. Last thing I'll say is that the mana base is pretty stock. I NEED to have 14 U/R for the deck to function, but I sure would like to have Den of the Bugbear and Mystic Sanctuary. We'll see what happens. Anyway, here's the decklist: Deck 2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance (KLR) 117 4 The Enigma Jewel (LCI) 55 4 Narset, Parter of Veils (WAR) 61 4 Collector's Vault (WOE) 244 1 Geier Reach Sanitarium (SIR) 270 4 Torch the Tower (WOE) 153 3 Phantom Interference (OTJ) 61 3 Ill-Timed Explosion (MKM) 207 4 Cleansing Wildfire (ZNR) 137 2 Anger of the Gods (AKR) 138 4 Stormcarved Coast (VOW) 265 2 Island (SNC) 274 2 Mountain (SNC) 279 4 Steam Vents (GRN) 257 4 Field of Ruin (MID) 262 1 Dig Through Time (KTK) 36 2 Chandra, Hope's Beacon (MOM) 134 4 Demolition Field (BRO) 260 4 Spirebluff Canal (KLR) 286 1 Collective Defiance (SIR) 148 1 Fomori Vault (BIG) 29 I'll update the decklist here going forward: https://aetherhub.com/Deck/izzet-8-field Before you trash the deck in my comments, I'm not telling you to burn wildcards to make this deck or that its this amazing, badass deck that'll win you trophies. This is a concept that I love and want to explore and I'm simply sharing my process in hopes some people pick it up, try it out, and provide feedback to push it forward. Is a mill engine the better companion for this, or is hard control the way to go? Who knows, but I'm gonna keep brewing around this and see what happens. Try it out and give me your thoughts if you have a chance.
