In this vlog we take you on a tour of the famous Medieval Tallinn Old Town which is a UNESCO World heritage site. Part 1 of our tour of Tallinn Old Town begins on the edge of the city as we head into the upper Old Town (where the political and religious powers once lived) we show you the viewing platforms that will allow you to get a glimpse over the whole of this beautiful 13th century old town! After Patkuli and Kohtuotsa viewing platforms - two of the best views of the Old Town, we head over to Bishops garden and Piiskopi viewing platform which has a view looking over to Telliskivi creative city, Balti Jaam Turg (popular shopping market), Kalamaja and over towards Stroomi Rand (Beach) and Rocca Al Mare which has the Estonian Open Air Museum and Tallinn Zoo. After taking in the views we set off to explore the sights up close as we walk over to St. Mary's Cathedral and then onto the stunning Alexander Nevsky Cathedral which is right opposite the government building and surrounding gardens. Then we take a walk down Pikk Jalg (which means long leg in Estonian) down to the lower old town (where the buildings were originally built for residential and commercial purposes). We grab lunch from a cute little bakery Loiri-Pagar and eat our pastries Al Fresco at Deer Park on Nunne. After lunch we take a walk along Lai Street (meaning wide) which is the wealthiest street in the Old Town, boasting lots of theatres and museums. We grab a coffee from Vegan Inspiratsioon a quaint cafe on Lai street right next to the tallest building in Tallinn - St. Olaf’s Church. Parallel to Lai is Pikk (long) the longest street in the old town, here we take a look at the House of the Black heads, The KGB Prison cells, The Holy Spirit Church and the Great Guild Hall before finishing the day at the Passage of History - one of the many fascinating passages in the old town, this one has tiles on the ground the whole way along with historical events including, the first time Estonia was mentioned on the map and the date Estonia gained their independence. The tunnel ends in the future! Upcoming videos Be sure to tune into part 2, where we complete the tour from the Old Town Square and we climb the tower, lunch at the famous medieval restaurant Olde Hansa, and finish off this 2 part series at the Danish Kings Garden and Kiek in De Kok Museum. We got married in 2018 and decided instead of a honeymoon we’d travel the world together for a year. We saved money and travel points, quit our jobs, rented our house out and boarded a one way flight. We started this Youtube channel to share our experiences with friends, family and anyone who plans to travel to the places we’re visiting. We leave TKT tips/facts on all our vlogs and blogs to give information that we wish we’d had before visiting.
