BUNESSAN (Gaelic Tune) - THIS DAY GOD GIVES ME [Relaxing and Healing Harp]

An old video (8 yrs) from one of my inactive channels, I transported it over here to mark a memorable occasion besides wanting some lovely harp music included in my incongruous video collection. I decided to re-upload it as is instead of creating a new one with the music hoping that those who liked it or were touched by it initially would be able to find it with facility. Before I learned about the colourful history of the hymn, it was the Cat Stevens' arrangement which I was only familiar with esp. since it was played on the academy's sound system every morning before classes started and it was one of those earliest pieces I learned how to play on the electric organ. Anyhow, thank you as well as apologies to those who had left moving comments on the old channel. Blessings of serenity and healing to all of you. '''BUNESSAN is a Gaelic tune that was first published (melody only) in Lachlan Macbean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael (1888) as a setting for Mary Macdonald's carol "Child in the Manger." The tune is named after Macdonald's birthplace on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. BUNESSAN is also well known as the setting for Eleanor Farjeon's "Morning Has Broken" (1931), published in many hymnals and widely popularized by Cat Stevens, who recorded an arrangement of the tune in 1971.'' (http://www.hymnary.org/tune/bunessan) THIS DAY GOD GIVES ME is set to the traditional Gaelic folk melody, Bunessan. It was paraphrased by Fr. James Quinn, SJ and published in the New Hymns for All Seasons [ca. 1969]. The text is attributed to the Lorica by St. Patrick, the second bishop and patron saint of Ireland [d. 466]. THIS DAY GOD GIVES ME ''This day God gives me Strength of high heaven, Sun and moon shining, Flame in my hearth, Flashing of lightning, Wind in its swiftness, Deeps of the ocean, Firmness of earth. This day God sends me Strength as my steersman, Might to uphold me, Wisdom as guide. Your eyes are watchful, Your ears are list'ning, Your lips are speaking, Friend at my side. God's way is my way, God's love surround me, God's host defends me, Saving from ill. Angels of heaven, Drive from me always All that would harm me, Stand by me still, Stand by me still. Rising I thank you, Mighty and Strong One, King of creation, Giver of rest, Firmly confessing Threeness of Persons, Oneness of Godhead, Trinity blest. God's way is my way, God's love surround me, God's host defends me, Saving from ill. Angels of heaven, Drive from me always All that would harm me, Stand by me still, Stand by me still.'' MORNING HAS BROKEN ''Morning has broken Like the first morning, Blackbird has spoken Like the first bird. Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning! Praise for them, springing Fresh from the Word! Sweet the rain’s new fall Sunlit from Heaven, Like the first dewfall On the first grass. Praise for the sweetness Of the wet garden, Sprung in completeness Where his feet pass. Mine is the sunlight, Mine is the morning, Born of the one light Eden saw play. Praise with elation, Praise every morning, God’s re-creation Of the new day!''
