Tour de France 1987 -- Stephen Roche wins his 1st Tour, becoming the 1st Irishman to ever win the biggest event in cycling, defeating Spanish climbing sensation Pedro Delgado in a Tour missing its defending champion from 1986, Greg LeMond. Part 10 of 12 : With another individual time trial awaiting on the Tour's next-to-last day, Yellow Jersey Pedro Delgado enters this grueling 123 mile Alpine mountain stage knowing he must build upon his current 25 second lead over 2nd place Stephen Roche. With epic climbs over famed Tour passes Col du Galibier and Col de la Madaleine, Stage 21's mountaintop finish at the ski station on La Plagne takes it place as one of the most dramatic Tour stages in history -- with one of the top two contenders evacuated off the mountain in an ambulance when all is said and done...
