Some hasty inadvertent consultants spread false rumor that Cost-Based CO-PA will not be used in the future. It is merely their wishful thinking. SAP announces Cost-Based CO-PA remains as they are. These people seek easy-way-out, and spread false rumor. They want to stay only with what they know so far, they don't want to come out from their comfort zone. Occasionally they do that, spread false rumor, and guide SAP in the wrong direction. Since R/3, Cost-Based CO-PA has been a synonym for CO-PA Profitability Analysis. Account-Based CO-PA is a supporting functionality for Cost-Based CO-PA. Sales - Cost of Goods Sold proportion is not ensured in Account-Based CO-PA. Revenue Element inverts minus sign (negative amt) of sales amount in credit only in Cost-Based CO-PA. Cost-Based CO-PA is best optimized for profitability analysis by intuition, or analysis by AI/machine learning. Account-Based CO-PA is suitable for FI/PA reconciliation, rather than analysis. 'Product Costing Made Easy' has been the only official document for Product Costing for last 2 decades. Every chapter it explains only about Cost-Based CO-PA. Account-Based CO-PA does not appear in any business model. Anyone who has studied the Made Easy would never think of using Account-Based CO-PA instead of Cost-Based CO-PA. Those people have not read it. So they jump to Account-Based CO-PA, seeking easy-way-out. That is causing the situation twisted. Cost-based CO-PA is catered for Cost of Sales accounting practice. The concept of Cost of Sales is the major accounting practice outside of Europe. In Europe, they follow period accounting. (Excerpt from Made easy.) SAP is not committed to keep consultants to get right understanding of their product. Their training didn't tell us product costing or profitability analysis in 1990s. They spend 3 days out of 5 in base cost object planning without explaining sales order costing. Instructor did the KEA0 OpCon generation, and didn't show us how to do it. Made Easy doesn't explain how to enable sales order costing, or how to set up variant configuration, or how to set up Cost-Based CO-PA. Projects didn't allow cross client customizing for FI/CO consultants. Consequently too big portion of FI/CO consultants don't know anything more than cost center - profit center, debit - credit accounting system. Less project, less knowledge base. This went into circle. As a consequence, cross module functionality with SD, PP, PS, CO gets deteriorated. Cocooning in Account-Based CO-PA won't encourage you to other modules like SD, PS, PP, and is undermining SAP product, degenerating the functionality. So S/4 HANA is not ERP any more. Splitting by cost component structure is an interesting functionality, but that does not give reason for neglecting core functionality knowledge.
