Here's the complete broadcast of an unsold pilot entitled Escapade which aired on the CBS Network and, thus, in Chicago via WBBM Channel 2. In spite of this show not making the fall schedule, it had an actual episode title - "i thought it was someone i knew." This, a proposed spinoff of "The New Avengers," was one of the first times the public would hear from (and see) (my wife) Morgan Fairchild; it also starred Granville Van Dusen, with guest stars Len Birman, Janice Lynde, Alex Henteloff, Gregory Walcott (nearly two decades removed from "Plan 9 from Outer Space" at this point) and Dennis Rucker. Ms. Fairchild's role of Suzy was basically the same as the "Purdey" character played by Joanna Lumley on The New Avengers; Mr. Van Dusen's character, Joshua Rand, took after "Gambit" (Gareth Hunt) on that same show. Includes: Tail end of THE 10 O'Clock News promo / station ID (voiceover by Bob Carrington) Animated spinning "A CBS Special Presentation" bumper Opening setup and show titles (but no Hank Simms - or other - voiceover, alas), followed by Act I Commercials for: Chevrolet Monte Carlo New Bounce "Fresh Smell" fabric softener Cling Free Sheets Episode Act II Promos for "Hannie Caulder" for Saturday and for "Mr. Majestyk" for Sunday (voiceover for both by Alan Berns) Commercials for: Fiat Super BRAVA V-8 vegetable juice - "Wow! I could've had a V-8!" Fotomat (voiceover by John Bartholomew Tucker) Escapade "We will return to..." bumper (voiceover by Hank Simms - there, you can all relax now) Promo for "The Dain Curse" over three nights beginning Monday Animated CBS 'Eye-D' (voiceover by Bill Gilliand) Promo for Channel 2 News Special Report "Bob Wallace: Fat Farm" (chronicling his "week-long vigil" at La Costa weight-loss spa) (voiceover by Bob Carrington) Station ID / THE 10 O'Clock News promo (voiceover by Bob Carrington) Sponsor billboard for Crest toothpaste Episode Act III Commercials for: Crest toothpaste (with Martha Deckard - Crest Test 1961 and children Greg and Tina) Super-Dry Sure anti-perspirant - "Take Off Your Coat to Sure" Episode Act IV Commercials for: Compound W - "Gets Rid of Warts" Plymouth Volare 4-Door (featuring William Christopher, Freeman King and Richard Kline) (ending voiceover by Scott Muni) - "Don't Give Up" Scope mouthwash - "Fights Bad Breath - Doesn't Give Medicine Breath" Sponsor billboard for Scope mouthwash Ending credits (with local-based voiceover promo for The Jeffersons and "Hannie Caulder" for Saturday, and for "The Wrecking Crew" for 10:30pm after THE 10 O'Clock News, by Jerry Harper) "A Quinn Martin Production" This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, May 19th 1978 during the 9:00pm to 9:57pm timeframe. This was from a tape donated to the Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of the Larry Charet Collection. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: [email protected] Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, please e-mail [email protected] Thank you for your help!
