Compass Box have provided us with some ground breaking, incredible whiskies over two decades, and when I saw a discount email on some of the older, even more experimental stocks, it was hard to not grab whatever credit card was closest to hand. This is Canvas. A collection of speyside and Highland and Speyside whiskies that are mostly bourbon orientated, but with a small parcel of them matured in Vino Naranja casks (orange wine). The result is a blended malt whisky with some of most southern Spanish notes you could ever dream of. Layered with orange pith, pseudo-sherry notes that will make you taste milk chocolate, Aperol, juniper, orange oil, and summertime. It's a good whisky, but even with the discount, I'm not quite sure that it was worth £80 a bottle. Especially when you consider the strength of Compass Box's core range.
