Paintbrush-Cascade Canyon loop hike, Grand Teton NP (8/20/2022)

- 8/20/2022 ("Teton Winds" road trip, day 3 of 10) A GLORIOUS HIKE! -- If I only have one day to do one hike in the Tetons, this is it. Since I had four days, I made sure I did this on the day with the best weather possible. And what a glorious hike it was. From the top of Paintbrush Divide, I was elated when I recognized Table Mountain that I summited 24 hours earlier. Then the views got even better when I descended towards Lake Solitude where I had lunch. A STRENUOUS HIKE? -- The trail is well maintained except the switchback section below the Divide. When I hiked up here, a team of Rangers were working on trail stabilization. This hike may be considered strenuous by many, myself included, but to the Rangers it's just their daily commute. For a week, they hiked up to the Divide everyday, at 10,000 feet, before the real work started. And the "real work" is sheer manual labor, such as moving a 300-pound solid rock over rugged terrain into position, so folks like me can have our "strenuous hike". Here's a link to my "Teton Winds" Road Trip playlist --    • "Teton Winds" Road Trip (Aug 2022)   ======================= "Teton Winds" Road Trip ======================= Just finished a 10-day road trip to Wyoming. Minus flying and driving, I had 8 consecutive days of hiking, including 4 days in Grand Teton National Park and 4 days in the Wind River Range. In the end I was real happy, as the quality of the hikes on this trip is through the roof! Wyoming is out of this world. GRAND TETON N.P. -- My last visit to the Tetons in 2006 was brief. I didn't do any hiking then, only drive-by shootings. But I was impressed, and knew I would be back for more. So finally in 2022 I planned this trip to do nothing but hiking. WIND RIVER RANGE -- The Winds are backpackers' heaven, but an inconvenience for day-hikers, as most of the iconic views are deep in the wilderness, miles away from trailhead. I managed to hike some of them, barely scratching the surface. SLC vs IDA -- For my itinerary, Idaho Falls would be the ideal city to fly into and start the journey. But post-pandemic car rentals are expensive, and I couldn't find any car remotely reasonable in Idaho Falls. So I booked my flight to Salt Lake City where rental options are plenty. This saved me about $600 but added more than 250 miles of driving to my road trip. Here's the itinerary -- Day 1 (8/18/2022, Thu) fly: LAS to SLC drive: Salt Lake City, UT to Idaho Falls, ID, then to Teton Canyon overnight: Teton Canyon Day 2 (8/19/2022, Fri) Table Mountain loop hike drive: Teton Canyon to Jackson, WY, then to Jenny Lake overnight: Jenny Lake Day 3 (8/20/2022, Sat) Paintbrush-Cascade Canyon loop hike overnight: Jenny Lake Day 4 (8/21/2022, Sun) hike Delta + Surprise + Amphitheater Lakes overnight: Jenny Lake Day 5 (8/22/2022, Mon) hike Lake of the Crags overnight: Jenny Lake Day 6 (8/23/2022, Tue) drive: Jenny Lake to Pinedale, WY hike Sacred Rim drive: Pinedale, WY to Green River Lakes overnight: Green River Lakes Day 7 (8/24/2022, Wed) Green River Lakes loop walk + Clear Creek Canyon drive: Green River Lakes to Pinedale, WY, then to Big Sandy TH overnight: Big Sandy TH Day 8 (8/25/2022, Thu) hike Cirque of the Towers overnight: Big Sandy TH Day 9 (8/26/2022, Fri) hike Temple Lake drive: Big Sandy TH to Farson WY, then to Rock Springs, WY overnight: Rock Springs, WY Day 10 (8/27/2022, Sat) drive: Rock Springs, WY to Salt Lake City, UT fly: SLC to LAS Total distance hiked = 97.9 miles Total elevation gain/loss = 20,850 feet
