In his first full-season as a starter - Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges burst onto the national scene in 2011 and established himself as one of the premier linebackers in the country. A first-team All-Big10 performer in 2011, Hodges recorded a team-high 106 tackles along with 10 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, 4 passes-defensed and 1 interception. On October 24, 2011 Hodges was named Big10 Defensive Player of the Week after recording 14 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 interception which he returned 63 yards in a 34-24 victory over Northwestern. The following week, the Paulsboro, NJ native once again earned Big10 Player of the Week honors turning in a ridiculous 19 tackle/1 sack/1 forced fumble/2 pass breakup statline in the Nittany Lions' historical 10-7 victory over Illinois. A preseason All-American, Hodges enters the 2012 season on watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch, the Nagurski Award, and the Lombardi Award.
