Sadly no… but today we'll apply our decals! Select decals to match the era of your machine. In this video, we apply the decals for a solid deck mower. Note the twin rail Scott Bonnar and Rover mowers use different stickers. We're using vinyl cut decals from SB Fabrication and Parts. These stickers are printed on thick vinyl, adhere extremely well, and are supplied ready to apply with an application paper. 🌐 Buy high-quality vinyl cut decals from SB Fabrication and Parts (@sbfabandparts) / sbfabandparts Aim to apply decals to the chain cover and catcher so they're straight and level. Unfortunately both the chain cover and catcher are unusual shapes so install both components on the mower and sit the mower on a flat surface (also ensure the catcher is sitting correctly on the hanger pins). Wipe down the application surface to eliminate any dust that might show through the applied decal. Cut out the first decal with the aim of keeping one of the long edges intact for reference. Use painter's tape to position the first decal in approximate position and step back for a better look. Painter's tape (blue tape) won't leave any residue behind if removed promptly. If you're after exact decal locations, have look at The Bonnar Bible (you'll need to join the Scott Bonnar Restorations group on Facebook to access). 🌐 Join the Scott Bonnar Restorations group / 1801521490103765 Once you're happy with the decal position, set out a length of painter's tape to serve as a baseline. A longer run will highlight any discrepancies in level when you're in the middle of sticking a large decal and provides good insurance. Lightly mist the application area with water. This sounds counterintuitive but the water doesn't cause any problems and will help you reposition the decal if necessary. Leave the application paper in place but remove the backing paper. Mist the back of the decal and position it in its final location. Adjust if required and press to adhere. We use an old credit card wrapped in cotton sheeting to squeeze out any air bubbles and press the sticker down. Work from the centre outwards and then concentrate on any sharp corners. Carefully remove the application paper, using the credit card to keep everything in place. Apply the medallion decal to the handlebar cover plate to finish or get yourself a brass medallion from SB Fabrication and Parts to use in place of the vinyl sticker (just watch painter's tape on the brass medallion--it will remove the printing). These decals adhere equally well to a smooth finish as they do to the textural hammered powder coat we used on the 14" mower. They've held up extremely well in use, too. 🎬 Watch all the rebuild videos here • Scott Bonnar 45 Rebuild 🎬 Watch all the teardown videos here • Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown 🎬 Check out the SB 45 walkthrough videos if you're new to cylinder mowers and Scott Bonnars • Scott Bonnar 45 Walkthrough ⚠️ Your safety is your responsibility.
