Gordāfarid the Brave - Epic Iranian Music

You can buy this song and the rest of my music here: https://faryafaraji.bandcamp.com/albu... An original composition by Farya Faraji. Gordafarid is one of the heroines of the Shahnameh--she leads the Iranian troop against the Turanians, led by Sohrab, son of Rostam. Ferdowsi tells us: "But one of those within the fortress was a woman, daughter of the warrior Gazhdaham, named Gordafarid. When she learned that their leader had allowed himself to be taken, she found his behaviour so shameful that her rosy cheeks became as black as pitch with rage. With not a moment's delay she dressed herself in a knight's armour, gathered her hair beneath a Roman helmet, and rode out from the fortress, a lion eager for battle. She roared at the enemy ranks, "Where are your heroes, your warriors, your tried and tested chieftains?" In my opinion, Gordafarid is inspired by the historical presence of women in the Ancient Iranian armies, like Artemisia of the Achaemenid Empire or Apranik of the Sasanian Empire. In terms of style and composition, I tried to harken to mid-20th century Iranian film music, which emphasized the usage of a Western string section played in a distinctive oriental style with emphasis on glissando and portamento, which gives it this distinctive feeling. A tonbak and a daf provide the percussions, with a ney flute, a santour, a oud, a zorna and a qanun adding to the instrumentation.
