BIG MATCH HIGHLIGHTS - VETERANS & MASTERS NATIONALS 2024

In roasting conditions, the cream of the UK Veterans and Masters match scene battled it out at Tunnel Barn Farm to be crowned Angling Trust National champions – and what battles they were! As the mercury hit 30 degrees in blazing sun, it was Tony Wood and Dave Brown Snr who picked up the silverware in the Veterans and Masters categories respectively. Former Barnsley Blacks star Tony won his match off peg 13 on the Jenny’s Pool with 55-175 of mainly F1s caught short on meat and on caster shallow in the margins – which was just as well as he broke his 13m section during the match! Silver went to Kelvin Emlyn with 54-650 – an agonising one F1 away from victory – from peg 13 on the Canal Pool, David Turner rounding off the top three from a few pegs away on Canal peg 1 with 51-425. On the Masters front, all of the action centred around pegs 6, 8 and 10 on the House Pool, Dave winning off peg 8 with a level 71-000 of carp and F1s – and going one better than his second place in last year’s event. Like Tony, Dave kept it simple with a margin attack down both sides with caster shallow, feeding regularly and rotating edges constantly. On next door peg 6, Tony Butler bagged 68-520 in what was another close-run thing to pocket second spot, the bronze medal going to Dean Evennett on peg 10 with 63-500. Follow all the action as it unfolded plus interviews with the winners from this much-loved event at Tunnel Barn Farm.
