You will see both “varnish” and freight from various roads using trackage rights on the KM. Of course, the Rule Book states that a qualified KM engineman must be onboard while using the line. The track plan is a series of folded dog bones with two end points that share a common physical plant. The towns and scenes represent the various markets served by Eastern railroads and the obstacles they faced in moving traffic from large centers like Chicago and New York City. Track, scenery and everything fixed to the railroad is the property of the club. Trains and rolling stock, for the most part, belong to club members. The Club operates on a Digitrax DCC System, and we've recently added the ability to use Android or iOS phones as throttles. The railroad is never quite finished and has actually been “under construction” for the last 30 or so years. The Keystone Model Railroad Historical Society began in 1987 as a non-profit organization whose charter includes building and running a model train layout (Keystone Midland-KM) as well as keeping a resource library on prototype and model railroading, educating the public, and preserving railroad history in the area.
