Independent Folk with Ana Egge | Acoustic Guitar Sessions

Singer-songwriter Ana Egge recently stopped by the AG offices to share a few songs while touring Sharing in the Spirit, her 13th album. Egge’s idiosyncratic songs flow between folk, blues, and pop tendencies, with her heart and soul always at the forefront. In this AG Session she plays the tender and mournful “Where Berries Grow”; a freewheeling Lou Reed-meets-folkie-lesbian love letter to Chelsea, NYC, called “Girls, Girls, Girls”; and “Door Won’t Close,” a song Egge says was the culmination of “working through good and difficult things in life.” As a bonus, we asked Egge to perform her version of the Steve James song “Talco Girl.” Egge and the late songwriter and storyteller had a long friend- and mentorship; Egge says she followed James around and would never leave him alone, and it was James who insisted she record an album when he heard the songs she was writing. Egge plays a self-built guitar named Junior, an instrument she has been playing since high school. She is joined in this Session by Mike Robinson on guitar, pedal steel, and backing vocals.
