Ikaw - Rita Razon and Jinx Chin

I never got a chance to sing with my Mom. She was the quintessential entertainer, who lit up every room she entered, and brought smiles to everyone she met. She even was cast as the female lead in a Malay movie called, "Pendekar Sakti" opposite Malaysian movie legend, Hussein Abu Hassan, even though she couldn't speak a word of Malay! This was when she first came to Malaysia from the Philippines, after marrying my Dad. Throughout her life, she filled all our lives with music, sometimes just breaking out in song at the hotel lounge after becoming fast friends with the lounge pianist and getting him to play her favorite song. Thanks to her, I found a love for music that has endured to this day and my brother and sisters and I, along with our Dad, cherish every moment that we got to spend with her. Sadly, she was taken from us in 2010 and while we all miss her dearly, we continue to be amazed at the sheer number of lives she has touched, through the friends she had, the charities to which she contributed, and even her fans. But I never got a chance to sing with my Mom. I accompanied her on the piano, arranged music for her to sing in concerts, even recorded her in my little home music studio. I have to admit, during my younger days, I would grumble whenever she asked me to do the musical arrangements for the songs and record her in my studio, because I had so many other things to do. If I could turn back time, and go back to those moments in my studio, I would record and produce all her songs, to no end, just so I could have more time to appreciate everything that she was to me. So I never really got a chance to sing with my Mom. In early 2014, while doing computer spring cleaning, I stumbled on to one of the Tagalog songs that she had recorded in my little home studio in 2007. This gave me an idea. Through the magic of modern studio technology, I recorded myself singing with her. While this was tough, knowing that I don’t speak a word of Tagalog, it was an experience like no other. It felt like she was right there with me, in the same recording booth, her mellifluous voice embracing me with the maternal love that I miss. I didn't even care about my terrible Tagalog pronunciation. For a few fleeting moments, she was alive and well, and in a visceral sense, so was I. I’m glad I was able to spend this moment with her again, and will come back to this moment often. I finally got the chance to sing with my Mom. I'd like to thank my lovely wife for so beautifully editing the video footage
