Allett Kensington 17H Review

The Allett Kensington 17H review goes through a majority of the features of the Allett 17 inch Kensington mower with a very versatile cartridge system. Allett has completely gone crazy in America, just look at GCI Turf on YouTube, and it is great to see these products finally available in Australia. This and other mowers from the Allett range are available from ADE Turf. Go check them out.. https://adeturf.com.au/products/brand... Before we even talk the mower, let's talk price.. These are cheaper than comparable mowers by about $1,000 and the cartridges are also cheaper compared, plus you get a few extra cartridges the competition doesn't have, so the Allett cartridges really have the overall lawn care system for the home lawn enthusiast. The cartridges mirror the C20/C24 professional range and are of an excellent build quality. The following prices are in Australian Dollars and Ex GST and are subject to change. Kensington 17H $2,416 (Honda GX120 Motor) 17" Scarfier Cartridge $296 17" Verticutter Cartridge $504 17" Grooming Brush $306 17" 10 Blade Cutting Cylinder $396 Apologies, in the video I said the cartridge was a 12 blade cylinder. That is incorrect, it is a 10 blade.. Freight of the mower and all the cartridges was $275 inclusive of GST (Melbs to Adelaide). It comes well packed and you just fix the handle, put in some cable guide clips and you are almost ready to mow.. You must put the oil in the motor before use. This mower runs on standard unleaded fuel. It is a four stroke motor so there is no need to mix 2 stroke oil into the fuel. As you may know I am pretty keen on battery technology and although I was tempted to go the battery power plant, I went for the Honda petrol because these are simply brilliant motors and I just wanted the extra weight a petrol power plant provides. The cut is excellent for a domestic mower. The mower sits really well and isn't too floaty on the lawn and this has mainly to do with he twin rear roller being SOLID!! Being solid and heavy right where it needs to be ensures solid performance, great stripes and excellent mower control. I have a commercial cylinder mower that is about twice the weight and I have also used the Allett C24 (see review here    • ALLETT C24 REVIEW // Cylinder Mower H...   ) which was nearly three times the weight of the Allett Kensington and obviously these mowers will sit better than the Kensington but for a lighter domestic mower, and especially compared to other domestic mowers I have used with a hollow rear roller or plastic rear roller, the Allett was better. This mower wasn't super faded by slightly uneven surfaces like my back yard (note I will be doing a series of transitioning from a rotary to a cylinder mower using this space) but mowing well managed couch was a real, or should I say "reel" pleasure. I will be trying other lawns such as kikuyu and buffalo in the future. I think it will be ok but you might like to look to other mowers with a greater height of cut than 32mm and a bit more weight. Allett have Buckingham in the Homeowner range or the Buffalo in the Professional range, contact ADE Turf for pricing. Having used cartridge systems before, I felt the build quality here was more solid and complete and the system well thought out. I did not mention it but I would love to see a dedicated groomer reel even though this would be fairly expensive compared to the verticutter reel. Speaking of the verticutter reel, very nice.. Loved the scarifier cartridge. It does an excellent job and would be the one cartridge I'd go for if you were limited to one extra cartridge. It covers a lot of bases in thatch management which is so important with low cut manicured lawn. I love how easy the changing of the cartridges are. There are no belts to muck around with and that means less chance of damaging them on a changeover. I dislike having to remove and replace the belt guard cover, would love to see the upgrade of a little flip door to make the cog gap available to make a quick easy change. This mower is really suited for those getting into cylinder mowing and have a 50m2 - 200m2 area of couch, zoysia or rye. Maybe it could get away with kit and buff. I guess we will see in the future. These mowers are very keenly priced and please direct all enquiries to purchase to ADE Turf (www.adeturf.com.au). Due to the excellent pricing there is no "Lawnporn" discount. All sales by ADE Turf of the Allett Kensington or other Allett products do not incur a royalty payment for Lawnporn. I am friends with Tim, Jack and Debbie at ADE Turf - no money has changed hands. I have visited their shop (pre-Covid 19) and seen the massive part range in person so you can be confident the sale of anything from ADE Turf is backed with parts, support and service. Wishing Allett and ADE Turf success.
