A Night of Music with the Musicians of Listen Up at the University of New England

Presented by UNE's School of Social Work's Applied Arts and Social Justice Certificate Listen Up! Music is a Portland, ME-based nonprofit day program and music studio that supports adult musicians with intellectual uniqueness in making music. Established in 2012, Listen Up! provides opportunities for musicians to work on writing, arranging, recording, performing, and marketing their music to the local music community and beyond. Listen Up! works with musicians of all technical abilities and skills and seeks to promote a musical community based on creativity, excitement, joy, and inclusiveness. In addition to soundtracking much of a local project called TV SHOW (collaborating with The Art Department) we have released four full-length albums of original material, with many more in the works. The musicians receive 75% of the sales of these albums, with the remaining 25% going into running the program and purchasing new instruments and equipment. In our studio we currently have two computer recording setups, as well as acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, two pianos, amps, drums, percussion, woodwinds, brass, steel drums, and more for our musicians to explore and create with. We've made music ranging from rock/pop to folk to ambient to choral to noise/sound collages and everything in between, and have also performed in small spaces and big stages around Portland. We are always on the lookout for working musical instruments and equipment for borrow or donation, as well as guest musicians who would be interested in volunteering or leading a workshop.
