In this episode of The Greater Jacksonville Paddle Guide, I launched from the Beach Blvd. Boat Ramp and took an exciting paddle through Big Pottsburg Creek to the Arlington River, eventually flowing into the mighty St. Johns River. My destination? The historic man-made Exchange Club Island, where I explored a bit and took a well-deserved break before paddling back with the incoming tide pushing me along. This route is a bit of a challenge—ideal for intermediate to expert paddlers. Newbies may find it tough due to the length, attention to tides, and a strong current when entering and exiting the St. Johns River. Don’t let all that discourage you! It’s totally worth it for the adventure! Exploring the island is an awesome bonus, but don’t forget your shoes, as the terrain can be rough. Exchange Club Island is rich with history, making it a great place to stop and reflect. This was a rejuvenating paddle, and I learned firsthand how important it is to follow the tides for an easier paddle. Ready to join me on this longer paddle? Let’s get to ‘yakin’!
