ISO 15848 (Part 1 and Part 2): ISO 15848 is a globally recognized standard for testing and classifying the fugitive emissions of valves. Part 1 focuses on classification based on the type of valve which is called Type Testing as explained in Video. The Part 2 outlines production acceptance test procedures. Both parts emphasize minimizing leaks and promoting environmental sustainability as explained in Video.. API Standards: The American Petroleum Institute (API) has established several standards to address fugitive emissions in the oil and gas industry. API 622 specifically addresses type testing of process valve packing for fugitive emissions. API 641, on the other hand, sets requirements for testing and evaluating the performance of quarter-turn valve stem seals in low-pressure and standard-pressure applications. API 622: API 622 provides a standardized method for evaluating the performance of packing elements for valves. By subjecting packing systems to realistic conditions, this standard ensures that they meet stringent fugitive emission requirements, promoting reliability in critical applications. API 624: API 622 provides a standardized method for evaluating the performance of packing elements for rising-stem valves. By subjecting packing systems to realistic conditions, this standard ensures that they meet stringent fugitive emission requirements, promoting reliability in critical applications. API 641: API 641 focuses on quarter-turn valve stem seals, providing guidelines for testing and evaluating their performance in low-pressure and standard-pressure applications. This standard is instrumental in enhancing the efficiency of valve stem seals, thereby reducing fugitive emissions in various industrial processes. TA Luft Standards: TA Luft, or the German Clean Air Act, sets stringent emission control standards. TA Luft influences the design and selection of sealing systems to minimize leaks and uphold environmental compliance. Fugitive Emission Packing Technologies: Live Loading: Live loading involves the application of constant force to the gland follower, ensuring continuous compression on the packing set. This technology maintains tight sealing integrity, even in dynamic operating conditions, making it a preferred choice for fugitive emission control. Bellows Seals: Bellows seals provide an effective barrier against fugitive emissions, especially in applications with high thermal expansion or contraction. These flexible, accordion-like components accommodate movement while maintaining a tight seal, contributing to enhanced environmental performance. Other Packing technology explained are Duplex Packing by Emerson, Kalrez Packing, V notch packing , PTFE and Graphite packing.
