Furious at those final moments? Wondering about all those unanswered questions and hanging threads? Me too. Here’s the thing – unlike the “Dexter” recut I did where I made some alterations to the complete 8th season, where they had a lot of good stuff and just needed a little nudge to get back the rails, “Penny Dreadful” was exceptional until those last few minutes where it killed off one of the major characters, something it didn’t EARN through proper build up, and then abruptly ended, leaving us forever in the dark on so many things that were never answered. It’s not possible to recut this using existing footage. So I can’t, so I won’t. Instead, I am rewriting the last ten minutes and then writing four “episodes” that will attempt to tie up all those loose threads and plot points. This is not a virtual season written in script format (those drive me nuts), but will be a novella written in third person omniscient. This work tries to match the subtle and poetic writing style of “Penny Dreadful” and will contain “Easter egg” winks to the original novels that Logan drew from (“Dracula,” “Frankenstein,” and “Carmilla”) and will, of course, also contain Romantic era poetry, as our beloved characters finally learn what Vanessa really is and the tale of Vanessa, Dracula, Lucifer, and Lupus Dei.
