Ticket was £54.45 one-way, including railcard discount and was 5 days before departure. The original tickets were £25.20 return with railcard discount and were booked around 4 weeks before the journey. Seatfrog upgrades were a total of £128 (£50 northbound and £78 southbound) which means a total of £153.20. After Avanti West Coast told me that there wouldn't be breakfast on the 1059 to Birmingham New Street, I booked first class on the 0943 5 days before the journey. It was also my first time in Birmingham since 2016. When I travelled to Birmingham with my mum in 2016, the northbound journey was with London Northwestern Railway (London Midland at the time) from Euston to Birmingham New Street via Northampton while the southbound journey was with Chiltern Railways from Birmingham Moor Street to Marylebone. Avanti West Coast is definitely better than both Chiltern Railways and London Northwestern Railway.
