This video was produced for a recent storage tank conference and demonstrates how laser scanning can be used to assess whether an internal floating roof design (IFR) for a storage tank will actually fit. The scan data was modelled and used to carry out clash detection for a retrofit roof installation. Laser scanning revealed that the IFR would clash with the tank shell, though the clash could be resolved by raking the stilling wells to ensure smooth IFR travel. We provided a comprehensive analysis of the proximity of the IFR to the tank wall.
