The church of the Holy Sepulchre was built during the 4th century CE by Queen Helena, mother of emperor Constantine. The church was built to house and protect the two most important sites for Christian faith: The hill of Calvary where Jesus was crusified and the tomb where Jesus was buried and from here he resurrected. The church contains the final stations of the cross, from the Tenth station to the fourteenth. The Church was renovated many times, and the current outlines and the facade date back to the Crusader perioud, 12 century CE. The church is shared between six christian denominations, the three major ones are the Greek Orthodox , the Catholic Latin church and the Armenian church. Three minor denominations have rights on certain parts of the church and they are the Coptic church, the Syriac church and the Ethiopian church. An agreement between all the above churces called the Status quo , was issued at 1853 . This tour will lead us through the major sites of the church, from the entrance and the historic doors, the hill of Calvary, the chaple of Adam, the rock of anointing, the rotonda that covers the Tomb of Jesus. We will also visit a rock-cut first century tomb withing the chaple of Joseph of Arametiah. Then we will visit the Armenian chaple of Queen Helena and we will descend to the deepest part of the church, to the quarry that is called the Chaple of the finding of the holy cross.
