Prussian Blue is a synthetic organic pigment inadvertently developed by Swiss paint maker Johann Diesbach when he was trying to develop a synthetic version of Carmine Red. It is a powerful blue, perfect for creating black when combined with Burnt Umber. It has the highest lightfastness rating, which makes this transparent colour fantastic for glazing when mixed with Liquin Original. As a strong blue, it is excellent for providing contrast, but it also dominates quickly. Here we mix Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Yellow and Titanium White with a bit of Liquin Original, this creates a vibrant orange. Even this turns muddy with the addition of just a small quantity of Prussian Blue. When using this colour in a mixture, be sure to use it sparingly.
