CHIPPING: Controlling the Bottom | The Golf Paradigm

Early extension is as much a problem in chipping as it is in the full swing. In the full swing early extension comes from he hips. In chipping it comes from the trail arm straightening too soon. When this happens, controlling the bottom point of the arc becomes a challenge as well as consistent contact. When this happens you lose trajectory control and spin control, two of the most important aspects of chipping. How to do this: 1) bend your trail elbow and tuck it into your side 2) bend over more in your setup, to ensure the club is flush to the ground while keeping the elbow bent 3) with your lead hand grab your trail arm bicep 4) make a chipping pivot while holding your trail arm bicep with your lead arm hand, and keep the bend in your trail elbow and wrist. 5) you may notice you need som trail side lateral bend to ensure your bent trail arm and club can reach the ball and that’s a good thing. To aid this allow the lead side hip and shoulder to work up and back as the rotation into impact continues. The Golf Paradigm is a theory that encompasses a Whole-In-One approach to improvement. It begins with the overall paradigm; i.e. the game of golf. Followed by two parts that are always to remain in balance; i.e. the golf yin/yang - ‘improving’ and ‘enjoyment’. Helping to maintain that balance are the 5 elements of the game; the swing, club fitting, health/fitness, mental, and integration. Knowing which area to focus on and how the other areas supplement that helps to form the golfers ‘recipe’ for improvement. As the golfer improves their recipe, or what is focused on, changes and this is what allows them to reach levels of play they never thought possible. It’s not magical, but it’s close.
