Kinetic Energy Risk Management: Case Study | WorkSafeBC

Kinetic energy is energy generated by an object in motion. Even after equipment is shut down and locked out, kinetic energy may still be present and hazardous to workers. It takes a while for equipment to come to a complete stop, whether it’s a saw or a chipper head or a disc. This video shows how the team at West Fraser’s sawmill in Quesnel, B.C. collaborated with British Columbia’s Manufacturing Advisory Group (MAG) to reduce the risk of kinetic energy through innovative controls that go beyond regulatory requirements. This educational video can be used as a training tool to illustrate the importance of risk assessments, safeguarding, and collaboration in manufacturing workplaces.
