Calabrese or green sprouting broccoli, best stage to harvest and why

Is it ready yet? - what to look for in developing heads of calabrese, which is a fast growing large-headed broccoli. Filmed early June and they were sown 14th February. You can continue to sow them in temperate climates until summer solstice. They can look ready to cut for a week. First you say see a small to medium-sized head of tightly formed buds. Then these buds swell as the head expands and becomes maybe quite large, especially if there is enough water in the soil. If the weather is hot, this happens very quickly and you need to harvest before buds open and go yellow. After harvest of the main head, which can weigh half a kilo / 1lb, there will be new and smaller calabrese/broccoli after 5-8 days, depending on temperature. Then a week later, even more and smaller heads or shoots, depending on variety. This one is Green Magic F1. Learn more in my online broccoli lesson: https://charlesdowding.co.uk/product/...
