Shamsuddin bin Dali or better known as S. Shamsuddin or Sudin (1 January 1929 – 4 June 2013) was a Singaporean actor and comedian, who appeared in Malay films during the 1950s and 1960s. In this video, S.Shamsuddin shared how he started working at the Studio Jalan Ampas owned by Shaw Brothers. He came to the Studio to become an actor but instead, he was given the work as a carpenter. His first role in a movie with the late P.Ramlee was in the Aloha film. He did many tasks while in the Studio such as Clapper Boy, Runner, etc. Many Indians were working at the Studio Jalan Ampas when it first started, before P.Ramlee became a film director. Antara Dua Darjat was Sudin's favorite film. P.Ramlee ever chased him out of the film set because he forgot the script. P.Ramlee taught him many things about acting. During his free time, Sudin will go and watch Javanese Opera and from there, he will get spontaneous ideas for dialogue which he shared with his friends. P.Ramlee was a talented and highly disciplined man, He can do many things. Often, P.Ramlee will pick up some lines from his friends and use them for his script. During their off-day, some of the actors will hang around the nearby coffee shop, and sometimes, some visitors will come and Studio's Manager will get them to show the visitors around.
