What is inside of an MFJ Tuner?

A quick comparison between the MFJ-900 and the MFJ-971. They’re both T match tuners they both handle about 200 W… let’s see… the 901B also has a balun the same as the 971. The 900 does not have a balun but is the same basic tuner. So if you’re looking for a QRP to 200 W tuner, they’re relatively cheap and they’ll tune your dipole to the band edges. I hear they will tune up most antennas, but reports are that they don’t do perfectly well on 160 but they’ll give it a good shot. There are some mods out there, for example if you go in and remove the second mounting point for the coil, you can gain back a half a turn and maybe help out your 160 results. The balun is 4:1 not 9:1, so probably better if you have an EFHW to bring your own balun! Thanks for watching 73, Bruce
