Tourism Management | Programme content | Breda University (AS)

In this video, student Liam shares information about the content of the Tourism Management programme at Breda University of Applied Sciences. The first year serves as a foundational year to provide a better understanding of what tourism entails, as it is a broad concept. Liam mentions engaging in various projects during the first year and expresses a love for learning new languages, such as French, Spanish, and German. Additionally, Liam highlights a practical subject called ELAB, which focuses on social media and involves exciting and interactive workshops. In ELAB, students create videos, develop websites, and even design mobile apps based on their research, with the aim of promoting tourist spots through Radar. Other courses in the first year include online marketing communication and research methods. The learning process typically involves self-study to prepare for lectures, followed by interactive workshops where students collaborate on individual or group projects. Once a project is completed, students move on to the next topic, continuing the cycle of self-study, lecture, workshop, and project. Moving on to the second year, Breda University's Tourism Management programme transitions to a broader curriculum, combining the three specializations: tourism destination, recreational hospitality, and travel industry. This approach allows students to gain insights into each specialization and develop a more comprehensive understanding of the field. Specific subjects in the second year cover areas such as travel transportation, travel geopolitics, pricing, capacity, touch point setting, and processes related to recreation and hospitality. In the third year, students have the opportunity to specialize further and choose their desired pathway for the future. The available specializations include e-tourism, tourism design and development, tourism business, or tourist experience. Liam personally opted for tourism design and development due to its focus on managing destinations from a holistic perspective, aiming to create the best possible experiences for tourists while ensuring the satisfaction of local communities. As the final year approaches, students face two options. The first option involves completing an internship, which provides practical experience, followed by a thesis placement related to the internship. The second option allows students to choose a minor subject of interest, enabling them to explore areas of study beyond their specialization. In this case, students work on their thesis independently, either within a company or by pursuing their own research interests.
