It's just like 10 min drive to visit this sword in rock monument from Stavanger city centrum. On a warm summer day, there is a popular beach here by the sverd i fjell monument. And also a lot of people park here and take a hike along the shoreline of Hafrsfjord. An impressive and photogenic monument. The monument was created by sculptor Fritz Røed and was raised here in 1983, and the king of Norway King Olav V was there to unveil it. They commemorate the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord which by tradition took place there in the year 872 when King Harald Fairhair gathered all of Norway under one crown. The largest sword represents the victorious Harald, and the two smaller swords represent the defeated petty kings.
