Saving the World: The Way Out Is In

Why would Sydney's younger self be in absolute disbelief if she saw herself today? I met Sydney while working on the Happy Farm of Plum Village, a mindfulness practice center in France. She is a 26-year-old changemaker who learned the hard way that saving the world starts by taking care of yourself first. Turning her focus inward, she greeted her shadows and thus embarked on a journey of healing and transformation. Working as a Happy Farmer at the mindfulness practice center of Plum Village has supported her journey even further, as she deepened her practice with mindfulness, and learned about community, love, and friendship. This journey of healing has profoundly changed her life, in Sydney's own words: «Just over a year ago I could barely leave my apartment. I was riddled with fear, anxiety, depression, shame, and a chronic feeling of unsafeness. My social anxiety was debillitating, my OCD overpowered me, and my nervous system was stuck in a frozen, shut down state. And now a year and a half later I’m traveling the world — feeling the most safe, expansive, inspired, empowered, alive, joyful, and hopeful I have ever felt. I’m crafting the life of my dreams and in love with each day and each moment.» Read Sydney’s Substack here: https://noticegently.substack.com Find more on Plum Village and Thich Nhat Hanh here: https://plumvillage.org Much love to my fellow filmmaker Josh Donaldson for supplying these amazing additional shots, check him out here: https://consciousfilmco.uk More work by Nicolá: https://nicola-bossard.ch Note: If you suffer from mental health issues, please don’t stay alone with it. Speak to your friends about it, seek out a therapist.
