Finding a Market for Your Illustration Work

Making the leap from art as a hobby to art as a business can be overwhelming. One of the crucial processes any illustrator must go through (usually many times through out their career) is connecting the work that they make with existing markets for that work. Basically, finding out who is paying for work that is similar to the art that you are already making. There will be 3 parts to this conversation today: observation, reflection and connection Part 1 will focus on observing what you see out there, finding places where illustration is currently being used and thinking through how yours might fit in those categories. Part 2 will focus on reflection, or observing yourself. Discerning your own strengths/weaknesses, and goals to determine what kind working rhythm you want to have as an artist. Part 3 will focus on connecting the dots from parts 1 and 2 and finding the sweet spot, the venn diagram of your work / the markets where it fits / your preferences for working day to day By the end of the video, you’ll have concrete steps to determine where your art fits in the market, and some basic understanding of how those markets work so that you can decide if they’re a good fit for you
