Is Pink Watercolor Supposed to Granulate? Paul Rubens Floral Pan Watercolor Set Review

This is a review of the new 24-half-pan Floral watercolor set by Paul Rubens: https://amzn.to/4cD73rv I was sent this set to review and affiliate links are used. My older paul rubens watercolor reviews can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/results?searc... Overview: The Paul Rubens Floral set of 24 half pans is new but it seems to be their 1st generation artists half pans. The color selection is the same as the floral tube set they had out 5 years ago. The set comes in an enameled pink tin, wrapped in a pink cleaning cloth inside a sturdy chipboard box. It also comes with a printed brochure of all the available colors and a watercolor paper swatch chart you can fill in. Pros: Price (about a 3rd of other professional sets) Nice color variety Rewets well Contains some granulating colors Pigment info provided on pans and swatch card Beautiful packaging Swatch card included Lightfast info on Amazon listing https://amzn.to/4cD73rv refer to that listing to see pigment and lightfast info (lightfast is on blue Wool Scale with 8 being best, 1* worst. All colors rated 5 or higher, 5 would be similar to ASTM 3, 6 would be ASTM 2 and 7-8 would be ASTM 1. Cons The earth tones are weak, They are weaker than the same colors in other sets so I’m not sure if they have reformulated the paints of if the ones in this particular set are weak. The dark browns are too similar and there is no yellow ochre The Sea Blue and Permanent Violet have a strange metallic bronzing in mass tone. Other things to note: This set has a granulating fluorescent pink as well as other granulating colors that botanical artists might want to be smoother. It is a personal preference thing. Bottom Line: These paints were fun to use on my rose painting but I don’t think this set is as versatile for other subjects. I like Paul Rubens artist watercolors and the prices are fantastic but I’d recommend either the original 24 half-pan set: https://amzn.to/4cD73rv or the 48 half-pan set: https://amzn.to/3LnkCiV because you will have more variety of colors for non-floral projects too. There are a few unique colors to the floral set as seen on the video but unless you have to have those the older sets are a better bang for your buck.
