Young Kawit folks perform the Karakol for Kawit's patroness, Saint Mary Magdalene during the celebration of Kawit Day, August 1, 2019. 1600 was the year Cavite Viejo, now Kawit, was established according to Agustin Cavada , author of Historia geográfica: geológica y estadiśtica de Filipinas. Considering Cavite Viejo (Kawit) as the Mother Town or Old Town, towns that are formerly part of Cavite Viejo, Noveleta (Tierra Alta), Imus, General Triaa, and now the parishes of Binakayan, and Panamitan naturally inherit various cultural traditions including the Karakol. It was in 1615, that Archbishop of Manila Garcia Serrano placed Kawit under the Jesuits. It was the same year the Jesuits opened a temporary church dedicated to the Nuestra Seῆora de Loreto and a mission house in Cavite Puerto where the Jesuit ministering both Cavite el Viejo (Kawit) and Binakayan resided. The traditions in Kawit revolve around the veneration of the patroness Saint Mary Magdalene. The patroness has become an important symbol of unity because of the miracles attributed to her not only during the Spanish era or the Philippine Revolution but today as well. The most significant miracle, townsfolks believe, is the blessings the town receive when the image of the patroness is brought around Kawit through a procession-dance tradition called Karakol. It is described as a dance movement performed collectively to convey gratitude or pray for special intentions. #cavite #cavitevlogger #filipinoyoutuber #filipinovlogger
