Every Breath You Take: Multifandom – Fate Is Watching

The video has three different meanings. One, all of these couples are drawn to each other and want to be together despite obstacles in their way. At times they even try to fight their feelings because being together could be dangerous. Second, there’s an underlying darkness within the male “heroes” who long to be with these “good” women (a few even a bit stalker like in their love or devotion). And third, which is at the heart of the story of this video, is that fate is literally watching these “fated” star-crossed souls and trying to break them apart. It was while we were editing the video that this underlying theme about fate began to take shape. What if we were to interpret the song in more than one way? About halfway through editing the video, we felt the story would be more interesting if “fate” itself was personified. What if fate was a real person and watching all of us? And what if “she” had a sinister intent? In this particular video, we focus on a few TV couples that share some similarities. There is Max and Liz from Roswell, Klaus and Camille from The Originals, Mick and Beth from Moonlight, Michael and Nikita from La Femme Nikita, The Doctor and Rose from Doctor Who, Angel and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Oliver and Felicity from Arrow and Nick and Natalie from Forever Knight. On the one hand, these couples could be considered “soul mates,” or “twin souls.” But, on the other, there’s something keeping them apart. Max and the Doctor are aliens who could bring danger to the woman they love. Michael and Oliver are “killers” with a coldness inside of them and are therefore also dangerous. Klaus, Angel, Mick and Nick are vampires struggling with the beast within. There are in fact good reasons for these couples not to be together. Yet, despite the danger and FATE working against them, they all go for it anyway. But what does FATE have in store for them? We leave that up to you to decide!
