An impossible decision, but yes - LAAP is my favorite Thai food, and no matter how you want to spell the name of this dish in English,* I want to take a moment to share with you some incredible versions of one of Thailands all-time great foods. A heavyweight menu item for any restaurant that serves it, I miss this dish so much that I was actually excited to come home JUST to have Laap! Its GREAT to be back home in Thailand, I hope you are doing awesome today as well! A mega welcome to you, I hope you brought an appetite! As you'll hear in the video, I'm taking it a bit easy on the cycling after so many months of hard training, so that means that I am perfectly positioned to share some massive meals of Thai food with my family (and with you!) - let's get to it! Today at 'Hello So Lao' restaurant we order a total of TEN dishes. I will do my best to show the differences between Northern Laap, and North-Eastern, and the fun then continues on to Lao and Thai (and North Eastern) papaya salad as well. Finishing off with some hearty home flavors (two killer soup recipes going head to head) its a great time to share some memories with family of our own time spent between these two special parts of Thailand. I hope you love learning more about one of Thailand's best dishes, and I hope I have given you at least a few cool new ideas (new menu items to look out for?) or things to remember for the next time you visit your favorite local Thai restaurant. Cheers! and much love! Greetings from my family to yours, thank you for choosing to spend time with all of us today. See you for some more Thai food action very soon! -Joel and Li **Laap (long "a" sound, and a soft "p" at the end) would be the closest to how it's actually pronounced in Thai (and Laab with a "b" would be second). Although its understandable that some restaurants include the letter "r" on a menu to maybe help those who might have never heard it ever sounded out... I hope that hearing it once is enough for you to remember that there is no "r" sound whatsoever in the name of this delicious Thai dish, and you can now happily and/or confidently order this for your next meal of Thai/Lao/Esaan food.
