Hike Notes With all the accolades going to the nearby Titcomb basin, Indian Basin is often overlooked as a backpacking destination. The Indian Basin trail is a frequently used route for backpackers who venture East of the Continental Divide from the Island Lake "hub" or the ones returning from the East side of the Divide. But the Indian Basin is usually not a destination, just a transit trail for most backpackers. I have found it to be an absolutely trip worthy destination! The high above tree line basin features a "classic" glacier circle formation as it is surrounded by beautiful imposing peaks: the Fremont, Jackson, Harrower and Elephant Head Peaks. Because of the orientation of the basin evening golden hours are spectacular with all the peaks turning bright red. The basin features three lakes and plenty of streams and water features which can be appreciated with open views on the way up to Indian Pass. Camping is great pretty much anywhere on the West side of the basin, with beautiful views of the mountains. The hike to Indian Pass from the Basin is not difficult or long, through an easy and well graded trail. The views East from the Pass are expansive and beautiful. A short hike down ensures great views of the Knife Point Glacier and the drainage. I had great summer weather, the blooming of the flowers blooming was at its peak, the area never felt busy. I loved it. On my way back I spent my last night at Island Lake, a notoriously busy destination where finding a camp can be difficult. I was able to find a great camping spot up above the lake with amazing views which I was fortunate to have all for myself. Rain came in at night (no thunderstorms), and the cloudy sky in the evening and morning made the views even more interesting. Like for Titcomb Basin, Indian Basin is a place I want to go back to again. The Winds are always great! Music: I Will Remember Everything Forever by Ave Air Licensed by Epidemic Sound.
