Smokey and I are working on leg yields and half passes in this schooling episode. Staying round, keeping energy/impulsion, shoulder in, are the areas we are focused on. Most importantly is that Smokey stays supple - soft in the top line, shoulders and throughout his body. Neither he or Sundance have been easy with this. Both horses were rescues and suffered abusive training methods before me. Many years have been spent working through their fears, triggers, PTSD. It's not just the mind that holds the memories, the body does too, on a cellular level. When I get frustrated and feel like we are not progressing like we should I remind myself how grateful I am to have found them. They have taught me so much. I wouldn't be the teacher, trainer, I am today without them. You will hear Kaitlyn, my certified instructor, and me talking throughout the filming.
