Soulful Sriranjani ragam on violin | Aishwarya Venkataraman | Ravi Shankar Music Circle | Carnatic

#ravishankarmusiccircle I Aishwarya Venkataraman performs this soulful hexatonic scale in its complete splendor, highlighting her talim and tutelage from her guru Shri. TN. Krishnan. After the raga exploration, listen to Aishwarya explain Sriranjani, Bhageshri, and Shiv Ranjani ragas to the audience. Aishwarya’s music is rooted in tradition and classicism and has grown to seamlessly incorporate more modern, boundary-pushing elements. Her tonal quality, innovative musicality, and effortless execution make her the ideal contemporary musician to bring an ancient tradition into the 21st century and beyond. Aishwarya’s musical journey began at the age of two on a 1/8th size violin in Northridge, California. She initially trained in the Suzuki method which set the foundation of her technique and was soon discovered by one of India’s foremost violinists, Padma Bhushan Shri T.N. Krishnan, who continued her rigorous musical education in the Carnatic style of Southern India. "In Aishwarya, nature seems to have treasured a worthy successor to [India’s] greatest violinists. Watch her evolution with love and care. —Star of Mysore". By the age of 10, Aishwarya had recorded her debut album Divine Strings, and had developed a musical repertoire and a stage presence that was noticed by musicians and music connoisseurs alike. It was at this time that she began her international performing career and became a consistent participant in South India’s yearly December music season. She continued her training at the famed Berklee College of Music focusing on expanding her knowledge of Jazz and developing her Jazz improvisation techniques. She holds the unique distinction of being the youngest musician to have graduated from Berklee with a B.A. in Jazz Performance at age 14. Aishwarya then went on to attend Stanford University where she received a B.S. in Biology and subsequently to Baylor College of Medicine, where she earned her M.D., all the while continuing her musical education and performance. Aishwarya’s career has taken her across the globe to prestigious venues in North America, Asia, and Europe. Performance highlights include the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey, John Anson Ford amphitheater in Los Angeles, Savonlina Festival in Finland and the December Music Season in Chennai, India. She has also been featured in NPR’s Crossing East series, HBO’s The Music in Me and Entertainment Studios’ The Young Icon. Her discography includes two full-length Carnatic albums (Divine Strings – 2002 and Bliss – 2007) performed with legendary musicians of South India. Aishwarya’s most recent work Revival is a crossover Jazz album inspired by her time at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital performing for and creating music with pediatric cancer patients. Currently, Aishwarya is a medical resident in the Child Neurology program at Texas Children’s Hospital and is particularly interested in the role music plays in the growth, development, and recovery of the pediatric brain. She continues to perform for diverse audiences from young patients with chronic illnesses in the hospital setting to seasoned music enthusiasts in the large amphitheater setting. [Aishwarya is]...a multitalented person with a good heart and...a point of pride for many decades to come. — Dr. Mark Kline, Physician-In-Chief of Texas Children’s Hospital, 2009-2020 ► Join our mailing list at https://www.musiccircle.org/ for updates on the finest in Indian Classical Music and donate at https://www.musiccircle.org/donate to keep this beautiful music thriving.
