Following the devastation to the Captiva nests, the original pair relocated. This season there is a lot of interest on the nest. Jack and Edie - 2024 May 18th Edie shows the prime example of gular fluttering and Mumbrella from from the Florida heat. Gular fluttering is a rapid, open-mouth breathing and throat vibration that causes evaporation and lowers the bird's body temperature (Avian thermoregulation) Mumbrella a widely adopted term, where the female osprey makes an umbrella over the chicks to shield them from the sun, wind or rain.
