Benjamin Franklin is best known as one of the United States of America’s Founding Fathers and signatory of the Constitution. But did you know he was also a freemason and in 1734 published America’s first book on freemasonry? Introduced by Museum of Freemasonry's Interpretation Manager Jane Nielsen, our Librarian, Martin Cherry, explores Franklin’s life in freemasonry before looking at the book in question, a reprint of the Constitutions of the Free-masons, first published in London in 1723. Of the 17 surviving copies that Franklin printed, two reside here at Museum of Freemasonry.
